I have been fascinated by the insect world since I was a small child. While studying Entomology in college, I became very intrigued with the honey bee. They are the only insects that produce a food eaten by humans. Honey bees never sleep, and are extremely clean. They haven’t changed in millions of years. Twenty years later, I was talking with my son about chap-stick. We became interested in the chemistry of making our own. Beeswax was the first thing that came to mind. We tried several recipes, and then developed our own. We met a nearby beekeeper who taught us many things about the honey bees. He supplies us with honey and beeswax. I learned the process for cleaning the beeswax. I wanted to develop other products using this wonderful substance. I developed a formula for solid lotion. I decided to share my wonderful lip and skin moisturizers with others, so Circle Thirteen was born. I have now added other natural products including Hand and Body Cream and a foaming scrub.
Circle Thirteen was inspired by the seasons of our Earth. Our Earth is represented by the circle, and the seasons are represented by the number 13, which is the number of weeks in each of our 4 distinct seasons. Each Circle Thirteen product is formulated, mixed, packaged, sealed, and labeled by hand in our kitchen. Although the appliances are modern, the processes incorporated in manufacturing our products are very much the same as those of earlier times when cottage businesses flourished. The concept is simple, produce quality, useful products in a caring and responsible manner.
